Pussy Riot Activist in Hospital

After seven-day hunger strike.

Jailed musician and activist Nadezhda Tolokonnikova was moved to a prison hospital today after her seventh day of an ongoing hunger strike. The Pussy Riot member has refused food as a protest against the “slave labor conditions” at the Mordovian prison camp in which she has been held. In an open letter last week, the activist described 17-hour workdays, repeated beatings, and death threats from a camp administrator. Tolokonnikova was jailed after her conviction last year for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” for taking part in an anti-Putin, anti-clergy protest at a Moscow cathedral.
