Turkish P.M. Lifts Headscarf Ban

Is he Islamizing country?

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday lifted the country’s longstanding ban on headscarves for Muslim women in government workplaces, which some cheered as a move for religious freedom while others wondered if the prime minister is pandering to hardline Islamists in his own party. “These restrictions violate the right to work, the freedom of thought, and belief,” Erdogan said. The majority of female civil servants will be able to wear headscarves at work with the exception of judges, prosecutors, police, and military personnel. Erdogan also expanded rights for the Kurdish minority, the latest in a peace offering to the Kurdish uprising in the country’s southeast.
