Ethiopian Adoptee’s Death Shines Light on Abuse, Neglect

Beaten, starved, and abused by fundamentalist Christian adoptive parents.

Fundamentalist Christians Larry and Carri Williams have been convicted for causing the death of their 13-year-old adoptive daughter, Hana, from hypothermia coupled with malnutrition and gastritis. The Williams adopted Hana and her brother Immanuel from Ethiopia three years ago, and treated the two differently from their seven biological children almost from the start, according to Slate reporter Kathryn Joyce. Tragically, Hana isn’t alone: fundamentalist women’s ministry Above Rubies began encouraging Christian families to adopt large numbers of disadvantaged children from Africa, dozens of cases of abuse and neglect have come to light.
