Will Ferrel Puts His Money Where His Laughs Are

His new production company will support female-centric comedies.

The days when women's comedy credentials were ceaselessly questioned by male companions and critics alike are finally behind us. The comedy godmothers Tina Fey and Amy Poheler preceded a new wave of funny girls—Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthey, and Rebel Wilson, starring in the first female comedic classics The Heat and Bridesmaids. Will Ferrell, no stranger to comedy nor women, wants to promote both with his new production company—Gloria Sanchez Productions—dedicated to making female-centric comedic. Of course, behind every smart man there's a smarter woman. In Ferrell's case, Jessica Elbaum, a Gary Sanchez executive, came up with the idea of backing up these new comedians. We can't wait to laugh with them.
