Jenna Marbles: The Girl Who Launched A Billion Clicks
How did YouTube sensation Jenna Marbles rocket to such viral fame that her online following rivels that of Oprah, Jennifer Lawrence, and Fox News? The 26-year-old comedian's first video, "How to Trick People Into Thinking You're Good Looking," made her a star overnight in 2010, and since then, Marbles, whose real name in Jenna Mourey, has made video blogging a full-time job. She's one of a growing flock of Internet stars able to make a living through their online fame. She won't disclose her salary, but an industry expert puts it in the solid six figures. “I’m not completely sold that you ever have to transition to mainstream media," Ms. Marbles tells The New York Times. But despite the millions of teenage girls tuning in every week for her latest tutorial, rant, or impersonation (Among them, "Drunk Makeup Tutorial" and "What Boys Think About During Sex,") Mourey and other online stars say the job in front of the screen can be a lonely one. “My perspective is to think, ‘I just have a lot of Internet friends,’” she says.
