Zooey Deschanel Mistakenly Captioned as Boston Bomber
Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, even closed captioning writers. Few of their foibles have been quite as jarring, though, as the recent replacement of actress Zooey Deschanel's name with that of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. During coverage of the police manhunt that aired Friday on Fox 4-Dallas Fort Worth, as the reporter spoke about the suspect, the screen read, "He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel..." Noticing the mistake, Peter Ogburn, a radio show producer and writer, took to Twitter with, "Oh come on, Fox"—using the platform's short text rule very much to his advantage. After catching wind of the unsettling news, Deschanel tweeted, "Whoa. Epic closed captioning FAIL."
