Social Media Linked to Plastic Surgery
A simple untag doesn’t make the cut, it seems—social media is driving more people to get plastic surgery. The annual Academy of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery survey found a 31 percent increase in plastic surgery requests because of how people want to look on social media profiles, according to surgeons. More women who seek plastic surgery are making it a family affair: there is a 16 percent increase in mother-daughter procedures and a 12 percent increase in sister-sister procedures. While breast augmentation is still the most popular type of surgery, the survey also revealed an increase in botox, rhinoplasty, and face-lifts. Guys aren’t exempt—the survey found a 27 percent increase in Botox requests by males.
