SPREADING THE LOVE
'Kiss Protest' Breaks Out in Turkey
Maybe all you need is love after all. After a couple was publically admonished for smooching on the subway in Ankara, about a 100 demonstrators staged a "kiss protest" on Saturday. The protestors locked lips for several minutes and carried signs that read "free kisses." Earlier in the week, subway officials made a public announcement urging passengers to "to act in accordance with moral rules" after the couple was caught kissing on security cameras. Opposition lawmakers, who fear the ruling party is trying to expand the role of Islam in Turkey, have questioned whether subway officials have the authority to make such demands.
