Unmarried Women Embrace Single Parenthood
It doesn't always take two. In a poll by the Associated Press, two in five unmarried women under 50 said they would consider having a child on their own. More than a third, 37 percent, said they would adopt a child without a partner. AP ran this poll after a U.S. Census Bureau report indicated single motherhood is on the rise. The poll also found few Americans think the variety of family arrangements in the country is detrimental to society, but 64 percent disapproved of women having a child without a partner. Only 24 percent of men would consider parenting by themselves, according to the poll.
