Celebrating Women in Film

But acknowledges slow progress for equality in industry.

Are things really getting better for women in the entertainment industry in the age of Two and a Half Men? Acknowledging the slow movement for real equality for women in the entertainment industry, Women in Film celebrated their 40th birthday with the Crystal + Lucy awards. Host Jenna Elfman tired to focus on the positive, saying roles for women are getting better and more interesting and Debra Messing said more women have been writing, too. It wasn't just women who were honored: George Lucas was awarded for humanitarian work and for putting women in positions of power and his female star, Carrie Fisher, also made an appearance via video. The women of Mad Men, such as Jessica Pare and January Jones, won the Lucy Award for excellence in television—so watch out, Don Draper.
