Japanese Women Top for Life Expectancy
After the 2011 tsunami that struck Japan and took the lives of thousands, Japan’s women have once again risen to the top as the world’s longest-living group. Data depict women born in Japan in 2012 can expect to live, on average, 86.41 years—up from 85.90 in 2011. The Japanese have a reputation for their longevity due to a healthy diet, active lifestyle, and quality health care. The researchers that published the longevity rankings used data from Japan and 48 other countries. Prior to 2011, Japanese women had been top of the list for more than 25 years.
