Russian Runners’ Controversial Kiss
A smooch by Russian runners on a very public stage is stirring up speculation around the globe. After winning the women’s 4x400-meter relay at the World Track and Field Championships, the four-woman Russian team kissed each other on the podium. Runners Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova exchanged another kiss after nabbing the gold medals. Sky News says Russian officials fended off allegations that this was a political statement against the recent law “banning the ‘propagandizing’ of ‘nontraditional sexual relations toward minors,’ according to NBC Sports. Two Swedish athletes were asked to get rid of their rainbow-colored nail polish at the event as well.
