Pushing for Gender Equality in Foreign Aid
The nonprofit Women Thrive Worldwide has been successfully lobbying for gender equality in foreign aid since 1998—and they’ll be busy this fall with initiatives to the United Nations and the U.S. Congress. The organization will push the General Assembly for better quality education for girls in developing countries. In September, they will be making a push toward the U.S. Congress to pass the International Violence Against Women Act, helping ensure that when Congress sends aid to a foreign country, priority is given to programs that help fight violence against women and girls. And in October, Women Thrive will focus on women and food security, which they will highlight at the Women Food Symposium in Iowa from October 16-18.
