Wendy Davis: Gov. Decision Soon
Will Wendy Davis be on the ballot to be governor of Texas? Nobody knows for sure, but she said Wednesday that she will announce her decision by October 3. The state senator, who shot to national fame in June when she led a filibuster against Republicans’ anti-abortion legislation, is considered a favorite of the DNC—especially if she could help rally Texas Democrats and reclaim the state that once was considered a safe blue. But victory at home is still a longshot, especially since she faces popular Gov. Rick Perry’s handpicked successor, Attorney General Greg Abbot, who has already raised $20 million for the 2014 race. Davis had initially planned to make an announcement earlier in the summer, but was hindered by her father’s ill health prior to his death on Sept. 4.
