Rape Victim’s Mom Bashes Facebook
In November 2011, four young boys raped teen Rehtaeh Parsons, according to her mother, Leah Parsons. In April 2013, after enduring circulated photos of the alleged assault and cyberbulling, Rehtaeh Parsons committed suicide. This week, her image appeared in a Facebook “Sponsored Ad” for a dating website. The ad, “Find Love in Canada,” redirected Facebook users to ionechat.com, which also featured Parsons’ photo. Leah Parsons spoke out about her daughter’s “beautiful face, her beautiful smile being exploited once again. It breaks my heart. It disgusts me.” Facebook has since apologized and banned the company from future advertising, and the site is no longer online. None of Parsons’ accused assaulters have been charged with rape.
