Rick Perry: Anita Misspoke on Abortion
Thanks for explaining what your wife meant there, Rick Perry. The Texas governor tried to walk back his wife’s comments over the weekend that abortion “could be a woman’s right.” “From time to time we’ll stick the wrong word in the wrong place, and you pounce on it,” Rick Perry said. It’s too easy to make a “you should know” joke here. Perry called a special session of the legislature this summer to pass a law that would close virtually every abortion clinic in the state and ban abortions after 20 weeks. Wendy Davis, a state senator from Fort Worth, tried an 11-hour filibuster to prevent the legislation from going forward, propelling her into the national spotlight—and she is likely to face Perry’s chosen successor, Greg Abbott.
