CA Increases Access to Abortions

Making it the only state this year to increase access to abortions.

On Wednesday, California governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that allows more medical professionals to perform abortions, making California the only state this year to increase access to abortions. The bill, which allows nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives and physician assistants with special training to perform a common form of first-trimester abortion, passed the state Senate with a 50-25 vote in August. Reproductive rights groups have praised California's willingness to make progress in protecting abortion rights but, of course, there is some outcry from pro-life groups. Brian Johnston, executive director of the California ProLife Council, says the bill "isn't about helping women so much as about promoting abortion." Right.
