DON’T GO PINK
Report: Breast Cancer Awareness Products May Help Cause It
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, and while you may think the shiny Clinique moisturizing lotion with the pretty pink ribbon charm on its cap may be saving both cancer and your wrinkles, you might be making yourself vulnerable. According to the Investigative Fund, 22 percent of all cosmetic products—including ones from giants such as Clinique, Estee Lauder, and Bobbi Brown—contain carcinogens such as formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, which the U.S. National Technology Program has linked to cancers of the gallbladder, kidney, lungs, nasal cavity, skin, and breast. Here’s where things get awkward: most of these cosmetic companies have raised millions to help breast-cancer research and education.
