LACE UP

Kazakstan Protesters Get Their Knickers In a Twist

Women detained after protesting ban on lace underwear.

Kazakstan authorities in Almaty have detained several female demonstrators. Their call to arms? Lace panties. The women, who wore lace panties on their heads as acts of solidarity with lingerie lovers of Eastern Europe, were protesting a ban on the import and sale of lace underwear in Kazhastan, Russia, and Belarus starting in July of this year. The ban was approved almost three years ago, but is just now being enforced. The reason? Apparently the Moscow-led Customs Union has deemed lace panties not absorptive enough. That's right. Lace panties will be banned because they do not retain enough "moisture." We could not be shaking our heads any harder.
