An Indian company hopes to create job opportunities.
While women in Saudi Arabia are currently fighting for the right to drive, one of India’s top companies is helping them get jobs. India’s IT and business-services giant Tata Consultancy Services announced the launch of an “all-female services center,” in Riyadh, the capital and largest city in Saudi Arabia. Tata Consultancy’s chief executive, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, told the Financial Times the operation will employ 400 women next year and should eventually staff 3,000 women. Saudi women have proven to be an untapped resource for the country’s economy. They account for 57 percent of university graduates, although only 20 percent end up in the workforce. Chandrasekaran says he has gotten full support of the government and other Saudi businesses.
