For the first time since the start of the Iraq War in 2003, not a single U.S. soldier died in combat in March, according to the Department of Defense. In Iraq, the last U.S. casualty was in November 2011; in Afghanistan, March was the first time since July 2007 that no Americans died fighting there. To date, the U.S. death toll in Iraq stands at 4,474, while in Afghanistan it is 2,176.
