The Supreme Court’s conservative justices have dealt Donald Trump a blow to his ego, political analyst David Rothkopf says.

The highest court in the land on Monday turned away Trump’s attempt to overturn a civil jury’s finding that he sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in a Manhattan department store dressing room in the mid-1990s.

“It’s now gone to the Supreme Court, and so it now stands. This is a matter of law: Donald Trump is a sex abuser,” Rothkopf said on The Daily Beast Podcast.

Trump, 80, has defended the opening weekend of The Great American State Fair, put on by his event organization Freedom 250, arguing that the sparsely attended event was actually jam-packed.

The three liberal-leaning justices on the Supreme Court are sounding the alarm about the latest ruling from the high court that vastly expanded executive power.

The high court in a 5-4 ruling Monday blocked Trump’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve board member Lisa Cook, deciding that “Congress, not the courts,” must change federal law on removing members of independent agencies, as the ruling said Fed governors are explicitly protected by “for cause” statutes.

But justices handed Trump an expansion of presidential authority as, in a 6-3 ruling, it said that he could fire members of independent regulatory agencies at will, overturning a 91-year-old precedent.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said he does not believe a new ransom note claiming to know who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie is genuine. “I think the FBI has done a number of arrests for false or fake ransom notes. I think we’re looking at another one of those today with what’s been reported. But we’ll let the FBI do their work,” Nanos said on the June 26 episode of 1030 KVOI AM’s The Buckmaster Show. On Friday, TMZ received a note from someone claiming to have a video of Nancy Guthrie on the day of her death, as well as a video of the “main guy” responsible for her disappearance. TMZ, which forwarded the note to the FBI, reported that the email came from the same address that has been sending similar letters hinting at the identity of her captors for months. “It is a shame that these types of events occur. People have great interest and that’s good because it helps us but then it gets really abused,” Nanos continued in his interview with host Bill Buckmaster. The note comes amid conflicting reports from TMZ and NBC News about the veracity of certain letters from her captor and their contents.

A Floridian woman was killed by an alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River on Sunday, marking the third alligator attack in central Florida in a week. The 31-year-old was swimming with friends when she was bitten by the predator, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. “Both her arms are dislocated… off basically,“ a witness said in a 911 call. “One arm is completely off.” Although she was rushed to the hospital, the woman sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced dead. Sunday’s attack, which is currently under an ongoing investigation, follows two other central Florida attacks, one of which involved a minor. The first occurred on June 21, when a man was approached by an alligator in Rainbow River, which was later removed by a nuisance alligator trapper. The second occurred on Saturday when a young boy was bitten on his hand by an 8-foot-7 alligator while fishing. Both attacks occurred in Marion County and were non-fatal. Although the FWC stated that alligator injuries are rare, they urged Floridians to be careful when swimming during daylight hours and to avoid feeding gators.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was spotted in the Capitol on Monday, where some believe he paid a visit to Congress’s in-house doctor.

An author has claimed that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein oftentimes knew what was coming in geopolitics before it happened.

In a new column for his Substack, HOWL, author Michael Wolff recalled several instances in which he said Epstein had a way of predicting political events before they occurred, likening him to a “mobster.”

Survivors are being pulled from the rubble in shocking miracle rescues in the days following Wednesday’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. Among those rescued were a mother and her 18-month-old child, who were pulled from the rubble after 32 hours, and a 21-year-old man who was found alive five days after the earthquakes, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer reported. The rescues come well beyond the window when survivors are expected to be found alive. “Everyone knows that three days is normally the last moment that you can find a survivor alive from an earthquake disaster like this one,” CNN contributor Stefano Possebon said. As of Monday, the death toll of the two earthquakes, which struck 39 seconds apart and had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, had climbed to 1,700, CNN reported. Possebon reported that Venezuela lacks the capacity for a large-scale response, and is relying heavily on search-and-rescue teams and significant foreign aid.

A JetBlue Airways flight from Las Vegas collided with a drone during its descent into John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City on Monday, according to the aircraft’s pilot. “We collided with a drone back there in the turn as we were coming to ASALT, just wanted to pass to you,” the pilot told an air traffic controller in an audio clip obtained by WABC. The drone struck the plane near the cockpit while the aircraft was 3,000 feet above ground, according to the pilot, who said he didn’t need any help with landing during the same call to air traffic control. A spokesperson for the airline told the Daily Mail that no one was injured in the incident and an inspection found no evidence of a collision. “The flight landed without incident, customers deplaned normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision,” the spokesperson said, adding that the company plans to “assist with any relevant investigations.” The Daily Beast has reached out to JetBlue for further comment. This isn’t the first time in recent days a drone and a commercial flight have gotten too close for comfort. United Airlines Flight 1513 nearly hit a drone while landing just 16 miles west at Newark Airport on Friday. The flight from Key West was a mere 100 feet above the flying object before safely touching down. “We want to send a clear message that operating drones around airplanes, helicopters, and airports is dangerous and illegal,” the FAA told People at the time of the incident. The agency receives around 100 reports of drone sightings near airports each month.

Venezuelan soccer player Yimvert Berroterán, 18, died in the earthquakes that struck the country last week. “Venezuelan football bids a heart-wrenching farewell to a young man who represented our country’s colors with pride, commitment, and love,” the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) said in a statement Saturday. Berroterán was best known for playing in the 2025 Under-17 World Cup for Venezuela during the team’s match against England. He had joined the senior side of the Venezuelan soccer club Universidad Central de Venezuela and was part of the team when they won the Venezuela Cup. ”Yimvert, we weep knowing that you are now in heaven, alongside so many other dreamers who tragically fell victim to the natural disaster that struck our country,” his agency, Agencia Secasports, said in a separate statement. Berroterán is just one of over a thousand Venezuelans who have died after Wednesday evening’s twin magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes. Thousands are injured and still missing. Venezuela is located between the South American and Caribbean plates, where powerful earthquakes are not uncommon.

United Airlines Flight 1513 nearly hit a drone as it landed at Newark Airport on Friday. The flight, which took off from Key West, Florida, was about 100 feet away from the drone moments before it landed in New Jersey, according to the pilot. “We almost hit a drone,” the pilot said to air traffic control in audio obtained by CNN. “About a hundred feet below us.” The pilot also shared that the drone was circular and about three feet wide. As a result of the collision, the Federal Aviation Administration, overseen by Administrator Bryan Bedford, is actively investigating the incident. “We want to send a clear message that operating drones around airplanes, helicopters, and airports is dangerous and illegal,” the agency said in a statement to People. According to the Foundation for Aviation Safety, there have been 28 serious safety incidents involving drones reported to police since October 2024. However, the threat of drone collisions remains, as the FAA receives approximately 100 reports of drone sightings near airports each month.

A 12-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being attacked by a bison while visiting Yellowstone National Park, park officials said. The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. on Friday near the park’s popular Mud Volcano area. Authorities have released few details about the encounter but confirmed the child was treated by emergency responders before being taken to a nearby hospital. An investigation is underway. The attack is the latest in a string of bison-related injuries at Yellowstone. Last year, two adult visitors were gored in separate incidents after officials said they got too close to the animals. The National Park Service has repeatedly warned that bison are unpredictable and can become aggressive if people fail to keep a safe distance. Visitors are advised to stay at least 25 yards away from bison and other large wildlife. Bison are responsible for more visitor injuries in Yellowstone than any other animal, and can sprint at up to 30 mph.

Photographer Al Drago captured the subtle “86 47” message scrawled onto a replica of the Cadillac Ranch sculpture inside the Texas state tent at the sparsely attended event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

In the hospitality industry, the number “86” means to remove an item or eject a customer. The use of “47” alongside it appears to be a coded reference to removing Trump as the 47th U.S. president.

The wife and two children of Argentine soccer star Lucas Trejo have died after powerful twin earthquakes struck Venezuela, his team announced. Trejo, who plays for second-division club Sport Maritimo La Guaira, searched for his wife Yanina and children Aaron and Ainhoa in the rubble for three days before rescue workers recovered their bodies, according to CNN. “Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira deeply mourns the irreparable loss of our player’s wife and children,” the team wrote on Instagram. “Peace to their souls and comfort for Lucas and all his loved ones,” it added on X. Trejo, 38, was at a team training camp in Caracas when magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 quakes struck, and rushed home to La Guaira, the hardest-hit state, to “a horrific scene,” his brother-in-law Ricardo Ardiles told CNN Español. “He found absolutely nothing of what the building itself had been,” Ardiles said. Nearly 1,500 people have been confirmed dead and tens of thousands remain unaccounted for, Venezuelan authorities said. Japanese singer, voice actor, and drag artist Akihiro Miwa died on June 20 at the age of 91 from natural causes, according to his website. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed him such exceptional kindness and warm support during his lifetime,” the statement read about the star, who used both she/her and he/him pronouns. A funeral was held in Tokyo with only family in attendance, and letters from fans were placed in Miwa’s coffin. Miwa, a Nagasaki native, was 10 years old during the atomic bombing of the city. As a teenager, Miwa moved to Tokyo to pursue a singing career. Miwa’s 1965 song, “Yoitomake no Uta,” became hugely popular in Japan after being performed at NHK’s annual New Year’s Eve music contest. Miwa began her acting career in theater but gained international recognition as a voice actor, most famously voicing characters for Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films, including the Witch of the Waste in Howl’s Moving Castle and Moro the wolf in Princess Mononoke. Miwa also frequently appeared on the talk show Aura no Izumi from 2005 to 2009, with local reports claiming the program helped set off the country’s “spiritualism boom.”

A tourist has died after a rock arch known as the “Kissing Elephants” collapsed onto a jet ski in Malta. The archway, located on the island of Comino, collapsed after an American holidaymaker jumped from the formation into the sea, the Times of Malta reported. The victim, a 26-year-old Chinese man, was recovered from the seabed on Sunday, roughly 24 hours after the rockfall. Authorities said he was riding a jet ski beneath the arch when it suddenly collapsed, trapping him under falling boulders. A 27-year-old Chinese woman who was also on the jet ski suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Gozo General Hospital. The 32-year-old American tourist was rescued by a passing boat and treated at the scene without needing hospitalization. A Maltese magistrate has opened an inquiry into the fatal incident. Meanwhile, a local kayaker told the Times of Malta that she had noticed a crack in the arch two weeks earlier.

A 28-year-old man was attacked and killed by a crocodile while swimming near a Mexican resort on Friday. The Mexican native named Irving was in the ocean by the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa, a popular tourist destination on the west coast of Mexico, when he was attacked by the massive animal. His screams alerted a California couple, Jamie Yetter and her fiancé, Chris Bury, who were vacationing at the resort with Yetter’s teenage daughter. The family’s trip was interrupted when they saw Irving being dragged out to sea. The couple and another unidentified man tried to help by throwing Irving a life preserver and reaching him in a kayak, but were unable to aid him during the attack. Bury reported to CBS News L.A. that he was “maybe 20 feet away” when he threw the life preserver to the struggling man. “The size of this crocodile, I mean, his head was as long as my torso, his tail thicker than my legs,” Yetter later said to ABC7. “[The crocodile] was just turning him, taking him under.” She further expressed concern about the resort’s lack of awareness about unsafe waters. “They didn’t tell anyone it was dangerous,” she said. While attacks are extremely rare, hundreds of crocodiles inhabit local rivers, estuaries, and the marina. Irving’s body was recovered the next morning, but the waters were not closed off, and swimming by visiting families quickly returned to normal.

President Donald Trump’s lack of urgency in filling hundreds of vacant government positions is rattling his own party, as Republicans worry the inaction could cost them control of the Senate beyond the midterms.

More than two dozen federal court seats remain vacant, along with the top jobs at the Labor Department and the Food and Drug Administration, among scores of other unfilled positions.

An anonymous senior White House official told Politico that Trump is in no rush, though. “Ultimately, we need to have the right people in those positions,” the official said. “So if it’s acting for now, so be it. National pride among Americans has declined to its lowest level in more than two decades, according to a new poll.

As America heads towards its 250th anniversary, a new Gallup poll, conducted between June 1-15, shows that U.S. adults who say they are “extremely proud” to be an American has dropped from 55 percent when the question was first asked in 2001 to 33 percent today.

That represents an eight-point drop from last year, matching the largest single-year shift in the survey’s history.

A fossil forgotten for 40 years in a drawer has been identified as the first dinosaur bone ever discovered in Antarctica, researchers say. The specimen was originally collected in 1985 on James Ross Island during a British Antarctic Survey expedition, but was stored away in the collection in Cambridge after scientists were unsure what they had found. It has now been re-examined and confirmed as a tail vertebra from a Titanosaur, a group of long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs that included some of the largest creatures ever to walk the Earth. Dr. Mark Evans of the British Antarctic Survey rediscovered the fossil while reviewing archived specimens, noting its distinctive structure. He then called in experts from the Natural History Museum, where paleontologists confirmed its identity. “As soon as I saw it, I knew what we were dealing with… it was a dead cert we were dealing with a Titanosaur,” said Professor Paul Barrett told the BBC. Scientists estimate the animal was around 23 feet long, possibly a juvenile or unusually small adult, living about 82 million years ago when Antarctica was forested and far warmer than today.

It has since progressed so quickly that Johnson now communicates through a speech-generating device, recorded after his diagnosis to mimic his own voice. “It’s continued to progress much faster than I ever imagined,” he said. “Just over a year ago, I was picking up my 7-year-old daughter so she’d make a wish with her birthday cake. Today, I couldn’t do that.” Johnson and his wife, Brittany, say they are sharing their journey to drive more research into the disease.

An American Airlines flight had a terrifying close call when another aircraft entered the runway where it was taking off. Flight 308 en route to Bermuda was forced to abandon takeoff at Miami airport after a business jet strayed into the same taxi area. At one point, the two planes were just one-third of a mile apart, with the American Airlines flight barreling down the runway at about 60 mph. Air traffic control audio obtained by ABC News captured the confusion after the American Airlines pilot was given the go-ahead to take off on Friday. “You just crossed an active runway,” the controller told the pilot of the business jet. “You just told me to cross the runway, sir,” the pilot said. “No, we said Amerijet 461,” the controller responded. After aborting its original takeoff, the American Airlines plane carrying 112 passengers and five crew members eventually landed safely in Bermuda. “We appreciate the quick actions of our crew members and thank our customers for their understanding,” American Airlines said in a statement. The Federal Aviation Administration said the private plane was not authorized to be on the runway. It is investigating the incident.

President Donald Trump’s failing Great American State Fair has suffered another public embarrassment.

The 16-day event on the National Mall was designed to kick off America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. However, Trump’s celebration continues to be plagued by bad luck, bad weather and bad attendance numbers.

Power cuts on day one of the State Fair saw ice cream in the food hall melt, while the Ferris wheel was also briefly out of action due to generator problems.

Actor Jesse Eisenberg has revealed why he passed on playing Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming sequel to The Social Network, The Social Reckoning. Eisenberg, 42, was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role playing the tech giant in the 2010 film, directed by Aaron Sorkin. The movie portrays the foundation of Facebook, and grossed over $220 million. However, Eisenberg will not reprise the role of Zuckerberg for the sequel. Eisenberg told Variety he and Sorkin “talked about doing the movie” for several days, and felt “if you’re not going to do something with him, it feels almost like you’re letting down America.” Speaking at the premiere of his new animated film Minions and Monsters, the actor said he told Sorkin he was “moving in different directions in my life... I don’t want to be associated with that character, but all of my reasons for not wanting to do the movie have nothing to do with how wonderful the movie is, and will be, and I’m sure is already.” Sorkin told Vanity Fair in June that he had spent three days trying to convince Eisenberg to reprise his role as Zuckerberg. “I felt like it belonged to him, and he was certainly battle-tested,” Sorkin said. “He simply did not want to be conflated with Mark Zuckerberg anymore, that he has his problems with the guy. He doesn’t like kids coming up to him in airports with business cards that say ‘I’m CEO, bitch’ for him to sign.” Succession star Jeremy Strong will play Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, which is based on the leaks from Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. It is released in October.

Democratic Senator Chris Coons was hospitalized on Sunday following a multi-car crash in Delaware.

The 62-year-old, who has represented Delaware in the Senate since 2010, was taken to hospital with minor injuries following a crash in Sussex County.

In a statement posted to social media, Coons explained that he was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash, which was caused by a driver experiencing a medical emergency.

President Donald Trump declared victory over “criminally made algae” as he distracted himself from other crises by immersing himself in his renovation projects.

The 80-year-old president launched into a 594-word rant about his botched Reflecting Pool renovations on Truth Social on Sunday, claiming the pool had suffered “great damage from Criminal, Radical Left Vandals,” and saying he would drain it again after July 4 to “treat the damage caused by these ‘animals.’”

He declared, however, that “in the meantime,” the pool “is working well” and “the criminally made algae is gone.”

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie crashed out on a Fox News Digital reporter who tried to interview him on a Washington street this weekend.

Massie, 55, didn’t even look up from his phone or stop speed-walking when reporter Nicholas Ballasy first began peppering him with questions. He was asking about allegations made by Cynthia West, a former Massie staffer, that she was pressured to sign an NDA related to a wrongful termination complaint.

“It’s all false,” Massie said in response, before repeating the same phrase when asked about another West claim that he had “an intimate relationship” with Rep. Lauren Boebert.

Fox News issued a rare apology after Shark Tank star and MAGA figure Kevin O’Leary made claims that were untrue.

The roughly 45-second apology has aired across four Fox News and Fox Business programs over the past four days, and relates to O’Leary’s appearance on the network in May, during which he discussed his plan to build a data center in Utah and claimed that groups opposing it were funded by the Chinese Communist Party.

“Kevin O’Leary appeared as a guest on the show on May 24 and discussed the ongoing controversy surrounding his planned data center project in Utah,” Big Weekend Show host Johnny Joey Jones said, reading the apology on Saturday.

Keyser, who was removed from the villa mid-episode on Thursday, took to TikTok to “address” a clip circulating online of her using the n-word while singing along to a song. “I’m sorry to whoever’s seen that video and has been offended by it,” Keyser began, clarifying that the video was “from six years ago.” She also claimed that screenshots shared online of an Instagram comment and a Snapchat message in which Keyser used the same slur have been falsified. “What has been shared does not reflect the truth, and it’s never been in my character to discriminate against anybody’s skin color,” Keyser said, adding that she doesn’t support “racism or discrimination of any kind.” Keyser, who is enrolled in the University of Southern California’s film school, said the experience has been a “learning lesson” for her and that she regrets not having a chance to show her personality on the show. President Donald Trump, 80, is secretly planting a monument to himself in Lafayette Square in the form of 47 Maple trees.

The Washington Post revealed the news on Sunday, saying the planned tribute—which uses trees as a nod to Trump being the 47th president—has been under development for months.

Trump reportedly wanted the new tree design ready for July 4, but experts familiar with the operation say it won’t be finished before August.

For the second time in three days, inclement weather has shut down festivities at President Donald Trump’s “Great American State Fair,” putting a damper on the already embarrassing event.

“Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be temporarily postponed and attendees are encouraged to seek shelter,” Freedom250, the organization created by the Trump administration that is behind the event, announced on Sunday.

Organizers said they are “actively monitoring conditions” and that “the safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority.“

President Donald Trump has turned what could have been a rare moment to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary into another display of his own ego, former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett said.

Donald Trump’s sons’ financial ties to a major mining project backed by their father’s administration have apparently rankled even some within the president’s inner circle.

A New York Times investigation found that Donald Trump Jr., 48, and Eric Trump, 42, became financially linked to a major tungsten mining project in Kazakhstan shortly after the Trump administration helped secure the deal and signaled it could provide up to $1.6 billion in federal financing.

Trump administration officials involved in the deal told The Times, speaking anonymously, that they were disappointed by the involvement of the Trump family—as well as the family of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick—in projects the government itself is helping to finance.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin struggled to answer if the Trump administration considers Haiti a “safe” place to deport temporary visa holders.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper will take the stage at Executive Branch, the swanky Georgetown club co-owned by the president’s eldest son, on July 3, sources told the Daily Beast.

Trump Jr. opened the club, which charges an annual membership fee of $500,000, alongside financiers Omeed Malik and Christopher Buskirk of 1789 Capital.
