A 12-year-old boy in Cleveland died after being taken to the hospital with serious injuries after he was shot and wounded by a police officer for brandishing a toy gun. According to the police they responded to calls of a man at a playground with a gun. When they arrived, the 12-year-old boy had the fake gun in his waistband. When he did not comply with officer orders to raise his hands and then, according to the officers, reached for the gun, they shot him in the stomach. The police said that the boy did not make any verbal threats to the police, nor did he point the gun at the police, and there was no confrontation. Apparently the toy gun was a replica of a semi-automatic pistol, but was missing the orange safety indicator. The officers have been placed on administrative leave.
