Records reveal that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump donated to the reelection campaign of Democratic President Jimmy Carter and not then-GOP candidate Ronald Reagan, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. Federal Election Commission records show in 1979 Trump and his family made the maximum federal campaign contributions allowed to Carter. Trump would not make any donations to Reagan for four more years. In fact, he made an early contribution to the political-action committee for former Democratic Vice President Walter Mondale’s bid for presidency just 10 months after Reagan’s 1981 inauguration. Trump said he couldn’t recall if he had donated but suggested the FEC records could have been incomplete. The GOP frontrunner didn’t make his first donation to Reagan until March 1984, when he gave $1,000 to the reelection campaign committee.
