Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the men behind the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream brand, were arrested during a protest at the U.S. Capitol on Monday. The pair were among the estimated 300 people arrested during the Democracy Awakening protests that began last weekend. Democracy Awakening protesters are convening on the Capitol to “protect voting rights, get big money out of politics, and demand a fair hearing and an up or down vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee,” according to their website. U.S. Capitol Police said protesters were taken into custody for unlawful demonstration activities, processed, and released at the scene. Ben & Jerry’s released a statement saying the co-founders joined the protest because they believe “if you care about something, you have to be willing to risk it all—your reputation, your values, your business—for the greater good.”
