Researchers from the United States and the UK have broken the record for keeping lab-grown human embryos alive. The two separate teams stated in recent findings that they were able to grow human embryos outside the uterus for up to 13 days, beyond the point when such embryos would naturally implant in a womb. Not only is the achievement considered a scientific breakthrough, but it challenges the decades-old law prohibiting embryo growth in a lab for more than 14 days as it becomes apparent that scientists could keep embryos alive for that long and beyond.
