An explosive device went off along the route of a 5K run and walk for soldiers in Seaside Park, New Jersey on Saturday morning. No one was injured in the blast, but about 5,000 people were set to take part in the third annual Marine Semper Fi 5k charity run. The event was subsequently canceled. The device reportedly went off in a garbage can on D Street and Ocean Terrance at about 9:30 a.m. The race, which was meant to start at 9 a.m., was delayed due to late arrivals. After the initial explosion, the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad was investigating a separate suspicious package in the same area. An evacuation zone for residents closest to the area has been established and Seaside Park is on lockdown while police investigate. No one is allowed to enter or leave the area, and the FBI and Homeland Security have also gotten involved in the investigation.
