Thomas Mair, an English white supremacist who hated immigration, has been found guilty of murdering British politician Jo Cox during this year’s highly charged Brexit campaign. Mair shot and stabbed Cox on June 16, a week before the referendum on remaining within the European Union. He shouted “Britain first,” “this is for Britain,” and “keep Britain independent” while he killed Cox, a 41-year-old mother of two. The unemployed 53-year-old had a stash of neo-Nazi material, pamphlets on white supremacy, and evidence of an obsession with apartheid-era South Africa at his home, according to reports. Mair pleaded not guilty but offered no defense and did not speak during the trial.
