The wife of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell is publicly questioning a Detroit medical examiner’s ruling that her husband committed suicide in his hotel room Thursday morning. In a letter, Vicky Cornell and the late rocker’s family attorney said they are “disturbed at inferences that Chris knowingly and intentionally took his life” and that “without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris—or if any substances contributed to his demise.” Cornell had a prescription for Ativan and, according to his family, could have misused the drug or made a medical mistake. The letter cited medical literature that states “Ativan can cause paranoid or suicidal thoughts, slurred speech, and impaired judgment.” Cornell, 52, was found on the floor of his hotel room with what cops described as a “cord” around his neck.
