Texas health officials confirmed Tuesday the first case of a patient acquiring the Zika virus through sexual transmission. “The patient was infected with the virus after having sexual contact with an ill individual who returned from a country where Zika virus is present,” a Dallas County Health and Human Services official said in a statement. The troubling news confirms suspicions that the mosquito-borne virus can also be transmitted via sex.
