Since 1909, Congress has gathered together to play ball once a year for charity. Pennsylvania Representative John Tener, who was a former professional baseball player, founded the game.

The 98-year-old game will take place Thursday, June 15th. With the first pitch thrown at 7:00 p.m. EST.

However, Wednesday morning a gunman attacked members of Congress at their baseball practice. The practice was for Republican members.

The gunman was an avid Bernie Sanders supporter and hated “racist” Republicans.

Five people, including GOP House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, were transferred to hospitals. Scalise is said to be in critical but stable condition. The Capitol Police officers injured are in good condition.

Despite yesterday’s tragic shooting, members of Congress will play in the annual Congressional Baseball Game for charity.

The game will support The Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation and, in wake of the shooting, the Capitol Police Memorial Fund.

The Congressional Baseball Game will be streamed on their Facebook page and is reportedly going to be broadcast on C-SPAN. You can also donate here.
