New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been begging Amazon to reconsider its decision to pull out of plans to build a second headquarters in Long Island City, and has even spoken with CEO Jeff Bezos on the phone, The New York Times reports Thursday. The governor, a staunch supporter of the second headquarters, has reportedly spoken “multiple times” with top Amazon executives to pledge his support. A letter that is being arranged for publication in Friday’s issue of the Times reportedlybacks Cuomo’s sentiment, and is signed by a litany of local groups that are supportive of the deal. Nevertheless, Amazon has reportedly shown no signs of reconsidering. The calls come after the tech giant made a remarkable about face in early February, announcing that it had canceled plans to build its second headquarters in Queens after facing remarkable local pushback.
