    Four Journalists Kidnapped in Libya

Clare Morgana Gillis of USA Today

Four journalists—including two U.S. citizens—have been captured by forces loyal to Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi, Human Rights Watch said Thursday. According to witnesses, the reporters were in a car Tuesday a few miles outside Brega, the scene of recent intense fighting, when they were stopped by pro-government forces and taken away. The reporters have been identified as USA Today, The Atlantic, and Christian Science Monitor reporter Clare Morgana Gillis; GlobalPost journalist James Foley; Spanish photographer Manu Brabo; and South African photographer Anton Hammerl. The State Deparment, Human Rights Watch, and the Libyan foreign media office have been informed of the situation and asked to intervene on behalf of the journalists.
