Columnist George Will thinks “rape victim” has become a coveted label. An Oklahoma Tea Party candidate sincerely believes gay people should be stoned to death. And one Texas official will not apologize for her “honest opinion” about “those blacks.”
George Will: Everybody Wants to Be a Rape Victim
According to syndicated columnist George Will, rape victimhood has become “a coveted status that confers privileges,” for women in college. The real victims are young men, who, thanks to the media and the federal government’s heightened focus on campus sexual assault, are at greater risk of facing rape charges. “Threatening to withdraw federal funding, the department mandates adoption of a minimal ‘preponderance of the evidence’ standard when adjudicating sexual-assault charges between males and the female ‘survivors’—note the language of prejudgment,” Will writes in his column entitled “Colleges Become the Victims of Progressivism,” which was published in The Washington Post and the New York Post. “Combine this with capacious definitions of sexual assault that can include not only forcible sexual penetration but also nonconsensual touching. Then add the doctrine that the consent of a female who has been drinking might not protect a male from being found guilty of rape.”
OK. Tea Partier Says Gay People Should Be Stoned to Death
Scott Esk is a Tea Party candidate for Oklahoma’s statehouse. He is also an advocate of stoning gay people to death. An Oklahoma magazine has unearthed a series of Facebook posts from last summer in which Esk responds to Pope Francis’s “Who am I to judge gay people?” quote with Bible passages that explain why he should totally judge gay people. When Esk pulled out a Leviticus passage about how “a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman” should be “put to death,” another Facebook user commented, “So, just to be clear, you think we should execute homosexuals (presumably by stoning)?” In case there was any confusion, Esk confirmed that, yes, that’s exactly what he thinks. “I think we would be totally in the right to do it,” he wrote. “That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation that things are worthy of death is very remiss.”
TX Official Wants ‘Those Blacks Off the School Board’
Texas Councilwoman Connie Trube doesn’t think she should have to resign for saying she wants to get “those blacks off the school board” because that’s just her “honest opinion.” Trube was caught on tape blaming one local school community’s problems on the school board’s black members. “She really turned black,” Trube is heard saying. “She got on the school board with the rest of the blacks and they all just ganged up and that’s why the school system has gone to hell.” When confronted by residents at a public meeting, where Trube was asked to resign, she defended herself. “What is on the tape is nothing more than me stating my honest opinion and I don’t back down from that.”
Rick Perry: Homosexuality Is Like Alcoholism
As we noted last week, a draft of the Texas GOP’s new party platform includes support for anti-gay conversion therapy. This week, Gov. Rick Perry defended the state party’s stance on the gay rehab, comparing homosexuality to alcoholism—some sort of elective version of alcoholism. “I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way,” he said.
