While discussing this past weekend’s violent rally, Republican Sen. Cory Gardner railed against the white-supremacist hate groups who organized the event. “Those assholes can go back to their cave, we don’t want them in this country,” Gardner reportedly told a town-hall crowd at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The junior senator was among the first Republicans to implore President Trump to more swiftly condemn the hate groups after a woman was killed when a car plowed through a crowd of anti-racism demonstrators. “Mr. President—we must call evil by its name,” he wrote in one tweet. “These were white supremacists and this was domestic terrorism.” He later added: “This is nothing short of domestic terrorism & should be named as such.”
