All the hoopla surrounding the upcoming Facebook film The Social Network could be doing a world of good for Mark Zuckerberg’s alma mater. After an international university ranking released last week had Britain’s Cambridge University overtaking Harvard University for the top spot–which had many rumbling that the U.S. higher education system was on the decline–a new report released Thursday ranks Harvard as the best university in the world, followed by four other American universities. Quacquarelli Symonds, a British-based higher education consulting firm, produced the earlier rankings, while Times Higher Education, the U.K.’s leading higher education news publication, and Thomson Reuters produced Thursday’s list. An analysis of the Times rankings said, “the U.S. is best of the best.”
