Earlier reports of the Iranian navy seizing a U.S. vessel and sailors were false, but the Pentagon said Iranian forces did fire warning shots across the bow of a cargo ship that crossed into Iran's territorial waters. The ship, flagged from the Marshall Islands (once governed by the U.S.), was boarded by Iranians but no one was injured and no Americans were involved. The cargo ship's master had "initially refused an Iranian order to move further into Iranian waters," the AP reports citing the Pentagon, "but after the warning shots were fired the MV Maersk Tigris complied."
