A federal judge ordered a plane carrying a deported immigrant mother and child to be turned around and returned to the United States, NBC News reports. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan was presiding over a lawsuit in Washington, D.C., between the American Civil Liberties Union and the Trump administration when he was informed that one of the parents involved in the case had been deported along with her daughter. The government originally told the court that none of the plaintiffs in the suit would be deported before midnight on Friday. Judge Sullivan then ordered the plane and the plaintiffs to be returned to the U.S., in addition to ordering the government to stop deporting any immigrants in the case who are seeking asylum for gang and domestic-violence reasons. The ACLU sued the government after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that asylum grants would be restricted for those fleeing gang activity and domestic violence.
