When Trump White House counselor Kellyanne Conway referred to the nonexistent “Bowling Green massacre” on MSNBC’s Hardball last week, it apparently was not the first time she used the phrase with journalists. Cosmopolitan reported Monday that Conway referred to the same “massacre” during an on-the-record interview with the publication on Jan. 29. Additionally, Conway referenced it as the “Bowling Green attack” during a brief encounter with TMZ on what appeared to be the same day that she gave the interview to Cosmopolitan. The actual incident involved two Iraqi nationals who were convicted of attempting to send money and arms to al Qaeda in Iraq to harm U.S. troops. Conway later acknowledged she “misspoke” in the MSNBC interview. However, in the comments to Cosmopolitan, Conway went into even more detail, stating that the individuals “came to this country, joined ISIS, traveled back to the Middle East to get training and refine their terrorism skills and come back here and were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre of taking innocent soldiers’ lives away.” Cosmopolitan reported court documents do not indicate either individual left the country for terror training.
