Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller, alleging that Mueller has acted outside the mandate given to him by Rosenstein. In the lawsuit, Manafort challenges the statute that allows and independent special counsel to operate, and his lawyers allege the Muller has acted in an “arbitrary” and “capricious” way by investigating matters not directly related to Russian interference in the 2016 election. Manafort was charged last year with conspiracy and money laundering, among other charges. He has pleaded not guilty.
