Mark Zuckerberg Makeover: Givenchy, Gucci & Burberry Instead of Hoodies (PHOTOS)

Facebook Fashion

The Facebook CEO should celebrate the IPO with a shopping spree. The Daily Beast makes a few sartorial suggestions.

Mark Zuckerberg: America’s greatest innovator, modern genius and, of course, champion of the hoodie. In the last few years we’ve become accustomed to seeing the Facebook CEO in a sweatshirt, mom jeans, and a pair of running shoes. But now that the company is poised for its highly-anticipated IPO, Zuckerberg can finally laugh all the way… to Barneys. Here, we’ve suggested a few looks from this summer’s collections that could help Zuck polish up for his next venture—or, at the very least, for next time he ventures out. (We’ve ranked the gallery in increasing order of difficulty to pull off). Plus, it’s about time he added “complete wardrobe makeover” to that Timeline.

This look from Dolce & Gabbana’s spring runway might not be too much of a stretch for Zuck. There’s a professorial appeal about these low-slung trousers, which are not particularly fitted, and are rolled slightly at the bottom. They’re offset with a short jacket and a skinny tie, which would make this an easy outfit to pull off on a trip back to Harvard—or a quick presentation in the board room.

Burberry’s Spring collection  felt like it was designed for British cool kids; simultaneously rocker and bohemian, waifish and impossibly cool. But this look popped out as something that would pass even around the hordes of judgmental nerds in Silicon Valley. Slim-fit blue pants, a plain white Oxford with a minute collar, and an oversized trench.

Zuckerberg may be forward-thinking, but that doesn’t mean he can’t incorporate a little nostalgia into his wardrobe as well. This throw-back ensemble from Patrik Ervell’s spring collection feels like page pulled straight from the annals of Americana—involving only a pair of cuffed pants, a collarless khaki bomber jacket, and a white T-shirt.

“Facebook is like fashion,” Zuckerberg famously exclaimed in The Social Network.  “Fashion is never finished.” His slicker counterpart, Eduardo Saverin, snaps back: “You’re talking about fashion? Really? You?” This Gucci ensemble certainly would have Saverin eating his words. The aubergine suit—and collarless purple-and-white shirt—may be a little Euro for Zuckerberg, but with a little confidence (and we know he’s long on that), we think he could pull this off.

Paging James Dean? He may not be our national heartthrob, but with a little Michael Bastian in his wardrobe (and a lot of styling), Zuckerberg could make more than a few heads turn on his morning strut into Facebook’s offices.

There’s a minimalist somewhere inside Mark Zuckerberg, with his penchant for clean buttons and white space on Facebook’s profile pages. So why not don the fashion equivalent: a sleek black suit designed by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent. For comfort’s sake, of course, he could swap out the loafers for his tried-and-true New Balance running shoes.

Eduardo Saverin recently renounced his American citizenship in order to live in tax-haven Singapore. What better clothes could Zuck pack to visit his (former) friend than this palm-leaf design (complete with a matching baseball hat) by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy?

Zuckerberg may be on “fire,” but there’s no better way to let everyone know than to wear a blazer that’s going up in flames.
