A Washington state lawmaker has mobilized numerous immigrant advocacy groups to call President Trump out on his “zero-tolerance” border policies at nationwide protests on June 30. The American Civil Liberties Union, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, MoveOn, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance are among the organizations expected to take part in more than 100 events across the country. The Families Belong Together demonstrations will also include a large rally directly across from the White House to demand an end to the Trump administration policy. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told MSNBC on Monday night the aim is to force Trump to take responsibility for the family-separation policy that has widely been condemned as inhumane. “The end game is really to say, ‘This is about Trump,’” despite the fact that the president “would love to make this… about Democrats,” Jayapal said. Trump and other White House officials have repeatedly blamed Democratic lawmakers for the policy announced by Trump’s attorney general in April.
