Report: At Least 29 Dead After Attack at Afghan Government Building

At least 29 were killed in Kabul Monday after three suicide bombers and gunmen attacked an Afghan government ministry building, The Washington Post reports. Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danesh reportedly said the “coordinated assault” within the Ministry for Martyrs and Disabled Persons also left at least 23 people wounded. The three attackers reportedly stormed the building with “assault rifles and explosives” after blowing up a car at the building’s front entrance. The attackers also reportedly held hostages and had an eight-hour gunfight with police. According to the newspaper, three policemen were reportedly injured and one was killed. An official also told the Post two of the attackers were eventually killed. No militant group has yet to claim responsibility, but the attack is reportedly similar to those perpetrated by the Taliban on other compounds. The attack comes after President Trump announced he is considering pulling as many as half of the 14,000 U.S. troops currently in Afghanistan.
