President-elect Donald Trump's advisors are reportedly considering JPMorgan Chase chief Jamie Dimon as secretary of treasury, according to CNBC. Dimon, however, has said as recently as September, in an interview at the Economic Club of Washington, that he would not be interested in such a role. The day after the election, Dimon sent a company-wide letter to his colleagues urging caution and optimism in the face of fears that a Trump presidency could cause an economic downturn. As head of JPMorgan Chase, Dimon oversaw the company receiving $25 billion in federal funds as part of the government’s bailout of financial institutions during the 2008 banking crisis. Former Goldman Sachs official Steven Mnuchin—the Trump campaign’s finance chairman—is also reportedly being considered for the position.
