GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s lead counsel Michael Cohen may have been in denial about his client’s poll numbers when he appeared on CNN yesterday, but the candidate’s new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway took a different approach during her appearance on Thursday morning’s New Day. Presented with Trump’s polling deficits in several battleground states, Conway smiled and said, “I think it helps us to be a little bit behind, and we are. It lights a fire under us and reminds us what we need to do to get this done.” As a pollster, Conway pointed to Hillary Clinton’s high unfavorable ratings and problematic numbers with male voters as evidence that Trump has “room to grow” while his opponent does not. In the same interview, Conway also praised the decision to name Breitbart executive Steve Bannon as the Trump campaign’s new CEO. “I’m extremely comfortable with Steve Bannon in the campaign,” she said. “I thought it was a masterful choice.”
