President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened Turkey, a NATO ally, with sanctions if the country doesn’t release American Pastor Andrew Brunson “immediately.” “The United States will impose large sanctions on Turkey for their long time detainment of Pastor Andrew Brunson, a great Christian, family man and wonderful human being,” the president wrote in a tweet Thursday morning. “He is suffering greatly. This innocent man of faith should be released immediately!” Vice President Mike Pence also warned of sanctions earlier in the morning. “To President Erdogan and the Turkish government, I have a message… release Pastor Andrew Brunson now or be prepared to face the consequences,” he said. Brunson was released from Turkish prison and transferred to house arrest Wednesday after 21 months behind bars. He was arrested on terrorism-related charges.
