President Trump’s lawyers have sent a cease-and-desist letter to former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon to prevent him from making disparaging comments about the president and his family. The move comes after excerpts from an upcoming book on Trump’s campaign and time in office revealed Bannon dissing Trump campaign officials, prompting a political firestorm and personal attacks by the president. Charles Harder, one of Trump’s lawyers, said in a statement late Wednesday that Bannon has been notified “his actions of communicating with author Michael Wolff regarding an upcoming book give rise to numerous legal claims, including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients,” ABC News reports. “Legal action is imminent,” the statement warns. Harder reportedly informed Bannon he could be forced to fork over “monetary damages” for his “disparaging” and “in some cases outright defamatory” statements.
