Undocumented Employee Says Trump Golf Club Shielded Her From Secret Service: NYT

A former employee at President Trump’s golf club in New Jersey has said that she was shielded from the Secret Service after she reminded management that she was illegally living in the United States, The New York Times reports. Emma Torres says that her name was removed from a list of workers to be vetted by the Secret Service, making her the latest employee to allege the resort knew some members of staff were undocumented. Torres said that in 2016, as Trump was in the midst of his election campaign, staff were asked to write their names, addresses, and Social Security numbers, on a list of employees that would be submitted to the Secret Service for clearance. “When I learned this is for the Secret Service... I rushed to human resources,” Torres told the Times. Torres says she used a fake Social Security number when she first applied for the position. After she told a human resources supervisor that she did not have legal status, Torres says the supervisor replied, “It’s OK. No problem,” and scratched her name off the list. Several employees have been let go since reports emerged that the club knew some staff members were undocumented.
