Viral Video of the Day: Queen is Back!
Panic! At The Disco bravely covers a legendary ballad
Queen were one of the 20th century’s truly iconic bands. With a constantly evolving sound and an extraordinary frontman in Freddie Mercury, Queen helped fill the Beatles-shaped void in popular music left by their fellow Brits from the beginning of the 1970s onward.
One of their most legendary works is “Bohemian Rhapsody,” an almost symphonic ballad featuring sections of hard rock, opera, and still other styles that defy classification. The song reached number one on the U.K. singles charts for nine weeks, and remains the third best-selling single of all time in Britain.
Very few have attempted to replicate the genius of Mercury’s vocals, Brian May’s guitar work, and the overall cohesion of the band’s sound as they seamlessly transition between genres. Except, that is, for Panic! At The Disco, who tried their hand at a cover of the song on their recent “Gospel Tour.”
What do you think – did they pull it off?
