Carrie Prejean’s meltdown on Larry King Live Wednesday was only the latest in the dethroned beauty queen’s public spectacles. WATCH VIDEO of our favorite Miss California USA moments, from her first use of “opposite marriage” to her brief stint as a weather girl.
Miss Eloquent
It’s hard to believe there was ever a time when “opposite marriage” wasn’t in the American lexicon, isn’t it? When Perez Hilton asked Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, about her thoughts on gay marriage at the Miss USA pageant in April 2009, her rambling, controversial reply started the clock on her 15 minutes of fame ticking.
Miss Martyr
A few weeks later, Prejean held a press conference where she invoked her WWII vet grandfather, who fought to protect her Constitutional right to say things like “opposite marriage.”
Miss Sunshine
Later that month, Prejean found the sympathetic audience she was looking for in the Fox and Friends crew, who brought her on as a guest host. They had her give the weather update, and even let her mangle the word “amok.”
Miss Bold
In June, Prejean continued her You Were Wrong, I Was Right national tour with a stop on Hannity, where she said that she lost the Miss USA crown because of “the boldness that I took for traditional marriage.”
Miss Joan of Arc
In September—a full five months after the Miss USA pageant—Prejean was still talking about The Most Important Question of Our Time. “I knew that God had a plan for me that night,” she told the audience at the Values Voter Summit. “God chose me for that moment because He knew that I would not only be the one to stick up for Him, and for the truth, but also, He knew that I am strong enough to get through all of the junk that I have been through.” Truly, her struggle is an inspiration to all who have suffered adversity.
Miss Congeniality
The opportunity to promote her new book lured the normally media-shy Prejean back to the spotlight for an appearance on Larry King Live on Wednesday. When King started asking her about her recent lawsuit settlement in the wake of her sex tape reveal and de-crowning as Miss California USA, Prejean repeatedly said King was being “inappropriate” before stripping off her microphone and sitting in stony silence on live television. If only she’d learned the value of keeping mum earlier in her career…
